Position Summary

Florida Atlantic University is seeking two Facility Custodial Staff – Boca Raton, FL. These essential staff help ensure campus facilities are clean, safe, and welcoming for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The position includes a variety of cleaning and light maintenance duties, using proper methods, equipment, and safety procedures to maintain high standards of cleanliness and operational readiness.

• Clean and sanitize bathrooms and assigned work areas using proper cleaning methods; includes sweeping, dusting, mopping, waxing, and vacuuming.
• Replenish supplies as necessary.
• Clean kitchens, lounges, hallways, stairwells, offices, conference rooms and other public areas as assigned.
• Remove trash/garbage and recycle items; clean receptacles and janitorial closets as necessary.
• Dust and/or wash furnishings, light fixtures, and/or air‑conditioning vents using proper cleaning methods or equipment.
• Wash windows and sweep stairwells.
• Report building damages or problems to supervisor.
• Perform job‑related special projects, including moving furniture or furnishings, room set‑up including linen or changing linen, and minor maintenance as necessary.
• Contain and clean up chemical, hazardous, or non‑hazardous spills using proper absorption and disposal protocols.
• Conduct daily campus walks to ensure buildings and property are safe, secure, and well‑maintained, including entrances, fence lines, golf carts, trash items, etc.
• Operate specialized cleaning equipment such as industrial floor buffers, automatic scrubbers, carpet extractors.
• Perform deep carpet cleaning, spot‑treating, and steam cleaning in high‑traffic areas.
• Monitor stock levels of cleaning chemicals, paper products, and maintenance supplies; report levels before supplies run low.
• Execute targeted sanitization schedules for high‑touch surfaces (e.g., door handles, elevator buttons, keyless entries, railings) during peak operational hours.
• Use a tablet, smartphone, or computer to receive, track, update, and close out daily maintenance and custodial work orders.
• Coordinate post‑event cleanup and asset recovery for large campus gatherings, ensuring spaces are restored to operational standards.

High School Diploma or completion of 9th grade and one year of appropriate experience required.

Salary: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour.
