What

does a Meter Specialist I or II do for us?

Meter Specialist I
  • Field collections on overdue accounts
  • Responding to planned and unplanned maintenance items including AMI non-communicating meters
  • Connecting and disconnecting single-phase meters
  • Interacting with customers, company employees, and authorities to resolve issues, taking into account the needs of the company and customers in alignment with Idaho Power and PUC rules and regulations
  • Reading and recording energy usage and demand into a handheld device
Meter Specialist II
  • Responsible for field collections on overdue accounts
  • Respond to planned and unplanned maintenance items including AMI non-communicating meters
  • Connect and disconnect single and three-phase meters, including CFNP reconnects for meters up to 240 volts
  • Interact with customers, company employees, and authorities to resolve issues, taking into account the needs of the company and customers in alignment with Idaho Power and PUC rules and regulations
  • With minimum supervision, reads and records energy usage and demand into a handheld device

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE Knowledge of:
  • Basic math and business concepts
  • Computers
A Meter Specialist II should also have knowledge of:
  • Meter types, collection arrangement procedures, basic cash functions (receipt writing) meter base configuration, and check-out procedures
  • Basic electricity (single and three phase)
  • ITRON MVRS, high/low parameters, state, and local electrical inspection requirements
Skills in:
  • Communicating effectively with customers both orally and in writing
Ability to:
  • Use Mobile Workforce applications
  • Remove and install self-contained meters
  • Use safety and personal protective equipment properly
  • Apply credit and collection policies
  • Deal effectively with customers in emotionally charged situations
  • Discuss power usage with residential customers
  • Operate company radio
  • Use common hand tools
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Maintain and operate a company vehicle in accordance with company policy
  • Stand call
A Meter Specialist II should have the ability to:
  • Connect/disconnect in adverse weather conditions
  • Assist in training new meter specialists
  • Apply Idaho and Oregon credit and collection policies
  • Communicate with Dispatch operations
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Meter Specialist I

Education:
  • High school diploma or GED
Experience:
  • 2 years of work experience which includes physical labor and interaction in a team or customer service-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently outdoors in all conditions
Preferred:
  • Utility experience collecting on delinquent accounts and reading meters, or experience and/or education related to basic electricity, or experience interacting with a diverse customer base
Licenses &

Certifications:
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Valid first aid/CPR card or ability to obtain one within 90 days
Meter Specialist II

Education:
  • High school diploma or GED
Experience:
  • Successful competition of the Meter Specialist Training Program including 2 years of experience as a Meter Specialist I
OR
  • Successful completion of the Meter Specialist Training Program including 1 year of experience as a Meter Specialist I and 2 additional years of related utility experience
