Summary / Objective
- The Aquaculture Technician in Training will demonstrate a passion for fish husbandry, a good work ethic, attention to detail and will perform a variety of aquaculture husbandry duties to include daily farm chores including feeding, mortality removal, and screen scrubbing.
Essential Functions
Knowledge of the facility including sections, pond numbers, and rearing areasKnowledge of the Emergency Action PlanUnderstands role on the farm and is dependable, trustworthy, and consistentGeneral understanding of the feed scheduleUnderstand the farm workflowKnows locations of offline settling ponds and sumpsKnows locations of influent valves and head ditchesKnowledge about fish barriers and their uses including tail screens, jump board, graders, screens, etc.Knowledge of facility equipmentAwareness of potential farm hazardsAwareness of significant manure build- up, wasted feed, and broken tail screensAwareness of technician’s activities and the meaning and significance of withdrawal tags on the ponds.SDS locations and their useBiosecurityHatch- house, outdoor, and disinfectionsCounting and picking mortalityAbility to handle and select proper grading techniquesTruck maintenanceTruck cleanlinessCleaning screensCare of vehicles, equipment, and farm safetyBasic pond hygieneAwareness and cleaning of debris on head ditch grates and first use ponds water entry pointsVacuum/ pumping operation and maintenanceResponsibilities include removing and recording mortalitiesMonitors fish behavior and bring any abnormalities to supervisor’s attention.Assists with fish transfers.Performs routine maintenance on equipment and systems. Routine cleaning including sweeping raceways, cleaning and repairing graders and equipment on farms.Completes all tasks including based on required safety guidelines.Participates in all safety trainingWillingness to perform any task on the farm, not just one specific job or task despite the job, skill or seniority of an individual.Performs and practices bio-security procedures around the farm.Maintains appropriate housekeeping and sanitation procedures on the farm ensuring proper protocol and required biosecurity measures are followed.Provides prompt, friendly and courteous service to internal and external customers.Helps out with other areas on the farm when needed.Other duties as required.Requirements Competencies

Physical Demands
This job involves heavy work exerting force frequently and constantly to move objects. The job involves lifting occasionally up to 50 lbs. Working in waders, climbing in and out of raceways and on and off trucks is required. The employee will be required to have a range of motion as follows:
- Often requires walking or moving to accomplish tasks.
- Often requires standing or sitting for sustained periods of time.
