** Founded in 1881, the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is one of the premier orchestras in the world. The BSO is committed to bringing world class music and performances to the local and international communities. ** About the role
** Symphony Hall is a historical building established in 1900. This position consists of light to detailed finished carpentry on building features and assets as well as painting. Painting is not limited to touch up but may include patching and painting of damaged walls. Position also requires some flexible hours and assists with changeover in the main hall.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Carpentry includes but is not limited to designing and installing furniture, shelving, restoring damaged auditorium chairs, repairing doors, maintaining cabinets, and adjusting and installing door hardware. Attention to preserving the historical value and integrity of the building and its acoustics is critical.
* Perform general maintenance services for the building including but not limited to painting, replacing light bulbs, light plumbing duties, working with other skilled/ licensed technicians respectively.
* Familiar with work order system and preventative maintenance.
* Adding and adjusting fixtures and fittings such as door handles, locks, hinges, and closures.
* Provide initial review of building or system problems and suggests calls to outside maintenance service providers for specialized needs for maintenance or service.
* Provide labor for outside building services including snow and ice control or removal, and general exterior building maintenance.
* Some mandatory overtime may be required.
* Performs all other related duties as required.

Education and Experience

* QUALIFICATIONS:

* Minimum of High School or Trade School Graduate.
* Five years experience as a general or specialized skilled laborer and/or graduate of a recognized trade school.
* Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
* Must be able to speak English fluently, foreign language skills a plus.
* Should have some knowledge of building code and OSHA.
* Neat appearance and an ability to interact with the public a requisite.
* Must remain calm in emergencies and be able to follow directions in stressful conditions.

Pay Rate Range: $27.60 - $32.79
