ABOUT
THE ROLE
The Maintenance Technician is part of the Operations Team and is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and clean environment for USES employees and participants while protecting the agency's physical assets. Under the supervision of the Business Office Manager, the Maintenance Technician will maintain the buildings and grounds at 48 and 36 Rutland Street. The Maintenance Technician will also work with Program Directors to ensure the smooth operation and compliance of the physical spaces in which their programs run.
The Maintenance Technician serves as on-call support for emergencies and may be asked to support outside of regular hours for additional tasks such as snow removal, set-up, and clean-up for evening and weekend events.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide daily hands-on cleaning services as required to maintain the inside and outside of the facilities.
* Order adequate supplies according to regulations from the different entities and governing bodies such as State, City, DPH, and DEEC.
* Check with program staff on any needs for supplies in order to maintain clean and safe classrooms
* Conduct daily walk-throughs of facilities and grounds to assist with visual maintenance and security
* Regularly review and replace/maintain building features, including but not limited to lights, water coolers, and lavatories; serving as the first line of support for major equipment such as the HVAC, plumbing, and the boiler systems
* Price out and travel to purchase supplies as needed to complete work orders and projects
* Complete at a high level of quality any minor repairs and maintenance tasks as requested by staff, adhering to the organization's work order process
* Track inventory, ordering and receiving of all maintenance and housekeeping supplies
* Be mindful of general building security and safety, such as locking doors, and windows and leaving egresses unobstructed, notifying the Director of Operations when there are concerns or areas of safety risk
* Follow through with the completion of projects in a timely manner
* Report and make recommendations concerning repairs and unsafe conditions
* Provide oversight of any contractor and ensure quality performance
* Provide oversight of scheduled maintenance contractors and vendors
* Perform other job-related tasks as assigned by supervisor
* Perform daily walk through of all properties, including litter removal, sweeping of grounds, trash removal, snow removal, and restocking household supplies
* Set up and break down for meetings and events
* Develop a maintenance schedule for periodic inspections and routine equipment maintenance
* Attend department and other staff meetings as requested
* Participate in planning and oversight of any capital improvement projects
QUALIFICATIONS
* Knowledge of basic building maintenance.
* Self-motivated and resourceful
* Ability to prioritize and manage work schedule
* Keep accurate records of work performed
* Experience in general housekeeping methods
* Ability to perform minor repairs/maintenance required: expertise in one specific area (plumbing, electricity, woodworking, or construction) a plus
* Strong interpersonal communication with the team to coordinate with all Program staff and ensure timely and quality responses to facility needs
* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
* Ability to work with a diverse population in a community setting is a must
* Ability to provide evening or weekend coverage or other assignments as required
* Professional communications: email, telephone, verbal skills desired. Knowledge of Microsoft Office application is preferred but not required
