Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds Maintenance
Bowling Green City Schools – Operations Center – Bowling Green, Ohio
Position OverviewBowling Green City Schools is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds Maintenance to support the delivery of district-wide maintenance, custodial, and grounds services. This role provides technical expertise and hands‑on support in maintaining safe, functional, and compliant school facilities. The Assistant Director plays a key role in facility operations, preventive maintenance, staff coordination, and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
Compensation& Schedule
Salary Range: $52,000 – $64,000 per year.

Work Schedule:
Normal business hours Monday – Friday; flexibility required for evenings, weekends, and emergency response.
Facilities & Maintenance Operations
- Support district-wide maintenance and custodial operations
- Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify and correct unsafe conditions
- Implement preventive maintenance programs and assist with long‑range planning
- Support HVAC systems, boiler operations, and seasonal system preparation
- Ensure compliance with building codes, ADA accessibility standards, and safety regulations
- Oversee care of landscaped areas and athletic fields
- Assist in snow removal planning and operations
- Maintain and prepare grounds equipment for seasonal use
- Support asbestos management plan and required training
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, AHERA, PERRA, and MSDS requirements
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with state law and board policy
- Prepare for fire, health, and safety inspections
- Report suspected child abuse as required by law
Staff Supervision & Support
- Assign and supervise maintenance and custodial work crews
- Assist with staff hiring, onboarding, and training
- Promote equitable workload distribution and team collaboration
- Foster a positive work environment and professional culture
Administrative & Operational Support
- Prepare work orders, reports, and procurement documentation
- Monitor inventory levels and order supplies
- Coordinate logistics for district events and activities
- Respond to facility emergencies and unexpected operational needs
- High school diploma or GED (post‑secondary trade training preferred)
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
- Clear criminal background check in accordance with Ohio law
- Meets all mandated health requirements
- Experience in multi‑site or school facility maintenance
- Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and masonry trades
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and building automation controls
- Relevant certifications (pesticide license, asbestos certification, boiler operator license)
- Ability to interpret blueprints and technical diagrams
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Effective communication (verbal and written)
- Organizational and time‑management abilities
- Problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to interpret regulations and technical information
- Physical ability to perform job duties (lifting, climbing, confined spaces, etc.)
- Ability to respond to emergencies and changing priorities
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, assists in supervising and evaluating assigned staff in accordance with board policy, administrative regulations, and contractual agreements.
Working Conditions- Exposure to weather extremes, noise, and equipment hazards
- Operation of vehicles, tools, and mechanical systems
- Exposure to chemicals, airborne particulates, and electrical hazards
- Occasional evening/weekend work and emergency response
- Physically demanding tasks and detailed documentation
