Under direction of the Custodial I Supervisor, the Custodian II is a Lead Worker assisting the Custodial I Supervisor with training, directing, managing, and supporting the work of Custodial Services employees. The person in this position assists in ensuring all work is performed in a safe, secure, and professional manner.

General Statement

Facilities Services is committed to efficient stewardship of MSU’s physical environment for the benefit of Higher Education in Montana. The Custodian II is a working custodian who provides lead worker direction to Custodian I employees.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides lead worker direction and support to employees.
  • Develops and maintains productive customer relationships between faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ensures all work is performed in a manner that ensures the safety of employees, building users and the building.
  • Provides direction and training for specialty tasks such as floor maintenance, building security, and unique area cleaning.
  • Provides direction, oversight, and training on safe use and operations including chemicals and equipment.
  • Participates in strategic departmental activities like product and equipment evaluation, and process improvement and development.
  • Other custodial duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Must be a current MSU Facilities Services employee, initially hired through an approved, competitive MSU search, with a minimum of one year experience with Custodial Services.
  • Overall Meets Expectations in all categories of most recent performance evaluation.
  • No active disciplinary actions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper building security procedures and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently exercise initiative and good judgement and to work successfully with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience providing excellent customer service to a variety of individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately follow and explain written and oral instructions and procedures.

  • Work effectively and efficiently in close cooperation with Custodial Services staff in a team-oriented environment

Special Requirements /Additional Information
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and meet all State of Montana requirements to operate State/University vehicles. (If successful candidate possesses a valid out-of-state driver’s license, must obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within 60 days of hire.)
