Custodian I - BZ (Full Time, Applicant Pool)
BriefPosition Overview
Applications are being accepted for the custodial pool at MSU! There are a variety of shifts in these departments across the campus:
- Facilities Services
- Culinary Services
- Family & Graduate Housing
- Residence Life
- Sports Facilities
- Strand Union
Facilities Services and the Auxiliary Services departments of Residence Life, Family & Graduate Housing, Culinary Services, Sports Facilities, and Strand Union are responsible for maintenance and custodial of the facilities they manage.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesCustodians provide cleaning and maintenance service for MSU.
Primary Emphasis- Cleaning areas (including restrooms)
- Carpeted and hard‑surface floor care
- Trash removal
- Room set‑ups
- Other related duties
- Experience with custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, etc.
- Experience working effectively with minimal or no supervision.
- Experience providing excellent customer service.
- Certifications, classes completed, or knowledge of safety procedures utilized in a custodial, janitorial or housekeeping position.
- Be able to positively and professionally perform all the functions of the position
- Consistently exercise initiative and good judgment
- Effectively and safely operate work‑related equipment and tools
- Accurately follow written and oral instructions and procedures
- Exhibit strong communication skills
- Work effectively and efficiently in close cooperation with staff in a team‑oriented environment
- Be able to complete multiple tasks in a timely manner
- Quickly adapt to changing priorities
- Possess strong organizational skills
- Maintain excellent customer service
- Be highly motivated and work with minimal supervision
- Have excellent attention to detail
- Represent the department and MSU to others in a professional and courteous manner
- Moving up to 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 100 lbs
- Moving items (such as stacking chairs, folding tables, setting up portable stages, carrying floor sealer, etc.) up and down stairs
- Moving up and down stairs
- Moving up and down ladders
- Stationary or moving about for extended periods of time
- Gripping handles on cleaning equipment
- Regular exposure to cleaning solutions
