Custodian I – Full Time (Applicant Pool)
Montana State University is seeking multiple Custodian I positions across campus. Positions are open for various shifts 7 days a week.
OverviewCustodians provide cleaning and maintenance services for MSU. Primary emphasis includes cleaning areas (including restrooms), carpeted and hard‑surface floor care, trash removal, room set‑ups, and other related duties.
Responsibilities- Cleaning areas (including restrooms)
- Carpeted and hard‑surface floor care
- Trash removal
- Room set‑ups, moving and placing of furniture of varying sizes and weights
- Other related duties
- Experience with custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, etc.
- Experience working effectively with minimal or no supervision.
- Experience providing excellent customer service.
- Certifications, classes completed, or knowledge of safety procedures utilized in a custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping position.
- Be able to positively and professionally perform all the functions of the position.
- Consistently exercise initiative and good judgment.
- Effectively and safely operate work‑related equipment and tools.
- Accurately follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
- Work effectively and efficiently in close cooperation with staff in a team‑oriented environment.
- Be able to complete multiple tasks in a timely manner.
- Quickly adapt to changing priorities.
- Possess strong organizational skills.
- Be highly motivated and work with minimal supervision.
- Have excellent attention to detail.
- Represent the department and MSU to others in a professional and courteous manner.
Special Requirements /Additional Information
- There are a variety of shifts across departments – please see “Posting Specific Questions” to select the departments/shifts you are interested in.
- Some custodial positions require a valid State of Montana driver’s license. If offered one of those positions, that requirement will be discussed with you prior to hire.
- Moving up to 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- Move, transport and place items of various shapes and sizes such as residence hall furniture, classroom furniture, office furniture, special event equipment, stacking or unstacking chairs, folding tables, setting up portable stages, carrying floor sealer, boxes custodial equipment, etc.
- Moving up and down stairs.
- Moving up and down ladders.
- Stationary or moving about for extended periods of time.
- Gripping handles on cleaning equipment.
- Regular exposure to cleaning solutions.
