Compensation:$18/hr; $45/event for BPS exempt employees

Position Overview

The Chain Crew plays an essential role in supporting football officials by managing the down marker, chains, and line of scrimmage equipment. Precision, attentiveness, and neutrality are critical to ensuring fair play and smooth game administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Arrive at the facility at least 45 minutes before kickoff to receive instructions from game officials.
  • Accurately operate the down marker, 10-yard chains, and clips under the direction of the officiating crew.
  • Maintain proper placement of equipment, ensuring accuracy and safety.
  • Stay attentive to the game at all times; avoid distractions, coaching, or cheering.
  • Keep the sidelines clear and follow all mechanics and safety protocols as directed by officials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to remain focused and attentive throughout the contest.
  • Familiarity with football downs, penalties, and measurements preferred.
  • Professional demeanor and willingness to take direction from officials.
Physical and Cognitive Demands

Work Conditions to include nights and weekends with outdoor exposure as applicable, standing for long periods, ability to move quickly and safely along the sideline, and lifting up to 25 lbs. All staff must model sportsmanship, follow school policies (including communication and social media), and comply with EAP/safety instructions.

The school will provide sport-specific training and review of NFHS/CIAC and conference policies. A background check is required per district policy.
