Custodian

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Process Maintenance Supervisor, a Janitorial Custodian will be responsible for overseeing the cleanliness, care and maintenance of all buildings site‑wide. The Custodian is self‑motivated, works with little supervision, displays a good work ethic, and maintains a team member attitude. They interact effectively with other crews and departments while remaining non‑disruptive and employ safe, environmentally sound work practices while maintaining high productivity and a willingness to learn.

• Service, stock, and replenish all designated areas of public use
• Service, stock, and sanitize/disinfect all washrooms
• Replenish and reorder toiletries as needed (toilet tissue, soap, paper towel, hand sanitizer, etc.)
• Sweep and mop floors; vacuum carpeted areas
• Empty and clean all wastebaskets, trash and recycle containers, cigarette urns
• Occasionally clean, dust and wipe down furniture, machines, and building equipment (shredder, printer, etc.)
• Move and arrange furniture (by use of proper lifting techniques), equipment, supplies and tools manually or with a hand truck
• Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools
• Drive designated/assigned vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work areas
• Follow safety instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies; label and store as directed
• Perform general maintenance as directed; notify supervisor if major repairs are required
• Clean all kitchen sinks, appliances, tables, outer fridge surfaces and countertops as needed
• Spot‑clean walls and carpets as needed
• Complete supply requests as needed
• Self‑motivated, good work ethic, able to self‑direct schedule of duties; displays a team member attitude, interacts effectively with other crews and departments without being disruptive or distracting
• Attend safety meetings and employ safe, environmentally sound work practices
• Maintain a high level of productivity and demonstrate the ability to learn
• Identify, report, and rectify safety hazards

• High School Diploma or GED
• 3 years of janitorial services in a business/industry setting
• Familiar with strict cleaning practices
• Ability to proactively prioritize daily tasks to be efficient and follow direction
• Strong organizational, memory and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to safely handle industrial and hazardous cleaning chemicals
• Identify appropriate tools/products or equipment suitable for the tasks to maximize efficiency
• Time management

Work is performed at an active mine site that may include open‑pit mining, processing facilities, leach pads, maintenance areas, and office environments. Employees may be exposed to extreme weather conditions associated with a desert climate, including high heat, cold temperatures, wind, dust, and occasional precipitation or flash flooding. Depending on the role, work areas may involve proximity to large mobile equipment, moving mechanical parts, blasting activities, noise, vibration, diesel exhaust fumes, chemicals, fuels, oils, airborne particles, or other industrial hazards typical of mining operations.

Outdoor work on uneven or rough terrain is common for many roles. Employees may encounter desert wildlife and native plant life. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as determined by job duties, task hazards, and work location. PPE includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, and other PPE as determined by job task and location.
Physical Demands:
Manual dexterity; handling and grasping; fingering and fine motor skills; speaking clearly; hearing in speech, radio, and environmental ranges; seeing, reading, and comprehension; near and distant vision; depth perception. While performing job responsibilities, employees must be able to communicate effectively and maintain situational awareness in an active mining environment. Physical activities may include standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, climbing, kneeling, crouching, or working on uneven surfaces.
