The purpose of this classification is to act as a working crew leader for a team of painters who perform general painting and sign repair and replacement for the Parks & Recreation Department.
Essential FunctionsThe Paint Crew Leader is responsible for the following essential functions:
- Coordinates with the Preventive Maintenance Supervisor the daily workof the paint crew and assists in planning for project work and budget. May aid other division staff including, Custodial Crew.
- Monitors and determines the painting needs and ensures that resources are available for projects and assignments.
- Inspects finished product, ensures the availability of paint supplies required for the task and project, generates work requests, assignsand distributes work, and coordinates work with other trades and contractors to complete building and painting needs.
- Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
- Investigating complaints of unsatisfactory painting performance andtaking appropriate corrective action.
- Responsible for the upkeep of all tools and maintain all county ownedequipment assigned to the employee.
- Training employees on proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance.
- Ensuring painting staff carry out tasks safely in accordance with OSHA standards, and in a professional manner with minimal disruption topark programming, activities and operations.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment daily.
- Review and approval of timesheets and time off requests.
- Responsible for communicating and working effectively with other trades
- Performs other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.
- Supervises and prepares surfaces and application of paints, stains andsealers for exterior and interior of park structures.
- Coordinates purchasing of supplies and materials for assigned jobs.
- Assists in inspecting safety and standards of parks.
- Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours.
- May assist in upkeep on Park grounds to include mowing, tractoroperation, weed eating, string trimming, tree maintenance, herbicide application.
- Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional orcentral office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response bythe Knox County Mayor’s Office
- Perform other duties as required
- High School diploma or GED required:
Associates degree preferred - Minimum of four years’ experience in carpentry, plumbing or electrical orrelated field
- Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver's license.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position.
- Must obtain Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification within one (1) year of hire/promotion.

- Basic understanding of computers, printers and other office equipment
- Ability to focus and demonstrate great attention to detail
- Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
- Ability to operate machinery and tools.
- Ability to work in a position of moderate complexity
- Ability to read a tape measure.
- Excellent communicator and active listener
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines, tools, and equipment toinclude a County vehicle, tractors, bush hogs, lawn mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, blowers, concrete mixers, hand-tools, etc.
- Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Physical demand requirements are atlevels of those for active work.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors, cold and hot weather conditions including precipitation.
- Exposure to various types of sprays, pesticides, and other chemicals
- Works around and with various types of equipment including welding and cutting torches.
- Exposure to electrical currents
