Starting pay: $20.63 per hour ($42,910.40 annually)
Employees also receive an annual transportation allowance based on their selected work schedule:
- $1,600 for a 4/10 schedule, bringing starting annual compensation to $44,510.40
- $2,000 for a 5/8 schedule, bringing starting annual compensation to $44,910.40
- Up to a 5% pay increase upon successful completion of the six-month probationary period.
- A $2,000 annual CDL supplement, paid evenly over 26 pay periods, for eligible employees.
The City of Brentwood is seeking a dependable, hardworking team member to join the Public Works Department as a Maintenance Technician. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, being outdoors, operating equipment, and helping keep the community safe, clean, and well‑maintained. Maintenance Technicians perform a variety of important public works duties related to road maintenance, drainage, erosion control, signage, right‑of‑way maintenance, brush collection, and other essential City services.
The Public Works Department maintains more than 500 lane miles of roadway and right‑of‑way, replaces and maintains street signs, collects brush from each residence once per month, performs right‑of‑way mowing and street sweeping, and maintains storm sewer infrastructure including culverts, catch basins, and open ditch systems. The department also supports traffic operations as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities- Operating and maintaining equipment such as mowers, edgers, chipper machines, chainsaws, power washers, post drivers, and other equipment as needed
- Performing outdoor maintenance and labor duties such as cutting trees, spreading salt or gravel, patching roads, removing trash and litter, painting, washing trucks, cleaning ditches and storm drains, and supporting roadside projects
- Assisting with bricklaying, pipe laying, sign installation, asphalt repair, right‑of‑way maintenance, and storm drainage repairs
- Supporting the Public Works team during routine maintenance, special projects, and weather‑related response needs such as plowing snow and storm damage removal
- Completing related work orders, reports, and documentation as needed
- Responding professionally to routine questions from City staff, officials, residents, and members of the public
- Enjoys working outdoors and performing hands‑on work
- Has experience operating equipment, tools, machinery, or vehicles in a hands‑on work environment
- Is dependable, safety‑minded, and willing to learn
- Can work independently while also contributing as part of a team
- Takes pride in serving the public and helping maintain the Brentwood community
- Has a valid driver’s license
- Has a valid Commercial Driver’s License, or is willing to obtain one within twelve months of hire.
High school diploma or GED preferred. Some construction, maintenance, or labor experience is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
A valid driver’s license is required. A valid Commercial Driver’s License is required within the first twelve months of employment.
