Title:
Operations Support Coordinator (Flatbed Securement Trainer)
Location: Chicago, IL (on-site)
Reports to: Ops Support Manager (dotted-line to Safety Manager; close collaboration with Onboarding and Shop)
Range: Hybrid scope—ops/safety coordination + training responsibilities
Compensation: 32 Hourly plus
Role
Purpose:
Support the Ops Support Manager by coordinating day-to-day issue resolution across Operations, Safety, Recruiting, and the local Shop while building and delivering flatbed load securement training and coaching. This role mirrors the Ops Support Manager’s scope from a coordination and execution standpoint and helps raise driver experience, safety outcomes, and seated-truck stability.
- Operations Support
- Partner with the Ops Support Manager to investigate and resolve IC issues and complaints; coordinate with the Ops team for timely resolutions and clear driver communication.
- Coach underperforming ICs on service, communication, and policy adherence; document plans and outcomes.
- When necessary, coordinate corrective actions up to contract termination per policy, in partnership with Ops Support and Safety.
- Safety & Compliance
- Serve as a local coordination support point for Safety lane inspections, documentation, and follow-ups.
- Collaborate with the Shop and Maintenance on equipment-related safety issues (e.g., out-of-service items, inspection prep, PM compliance).
- Reinforce coaching tied to preventable incidents, HOS, and CSA priorities; track coaching completion and outcomes.
- Flatbed Securement Training & Coaching
- Develop and deliver hands-on securement training (initial onboarding and refreshers): chaining, strapping, edge protection, tarp best practices, and DOT compliance.
- Ride-alongs or yard-based coaching sessions for ICs who need additional support.
- Maintain training materials, checklists, and quick-reference guides; align with Safety standards.
- Recruiting & Onboarding Support
- Partner with Recruiting to ensure candidate promises match operational reality; support upcoming scheduled driver touchpoints.
- Backup onboarding facilitator when leaders are unavailable, cover safety orientation, securement basics, and policy walkthroughs.
- Provide feedback to Recruiting on candidate quality and early-tenure risks (first 30/90 days).
- Maintenance & Shop Coordination
- Coordinate with Shop/Maintenance on IC truck/trailer condition issues, PM scheduling, and warranty/wear items. Conduct QC checks on ready equipment.
- Help set expectations with ICs on communication, and required follow-ups to reduce roadside events.
- Admin, Reporting, and Cultural Standards
- Model Nova Lines’ professional, safety-first culture, clear communication, respect for drivers, and follow-through.
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance standards in all interactions.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) – TBD
- Other duties as assigned.
Background in driving, operations, or training strongly preferred and basic flatbed knowledge required.
Experience Exposure to operations and safety processes.
Communication Clear, steady communicator, able to coach under pressure and keep drivers and teams aligned.
Work Style Comfortable working in the yard and in-office; able to lift/tarp as needed for demos.
Systems Basic systems: TMS/dispatch tools, incident logging, Google suite.
Work ConditionsLocation: On-site in Bridgeview
Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday thru Friday with occasional after-hours coordination for urgent cases.
