Job Description
Title: Lead Mechanic
Location: Bedford Park, IL
Hire Type: Direct Hire
Shift: 3rd shift (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM CST, Monday-Friday). Flexibility to support other shifts, including weekends, may be required. Shift differentials apply for off-shift work.
Compensation: $36/hr

OverviewA manufacturing facility is seeking a skilled Line Mechanic to support the daily maintenance, repair, and reliability of mechanical systems and production equipment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations. This position will initially be assigned to 3rd shift (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM CST, Monday-Friday). Flexibility to support other shifts, including weekends, may be required.
Shift differentials apply for off-shift work. Compensation is an established hourly rate in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement.
- Install, maintain, and repair plant machinery and mechanical systems
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to support equipment reliability
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues to minimize downtime
- Repair both heavy-duty and precision production equipment
- Complete work orders, emergency repairs, and maintenance documentation accurately
- Develop, update, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
- Communicate effectively with operators and team members across all shifts
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized work area
- Ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures are followed
- Adhere to all safety, GMP, and company policies
- Report equipment or process changes to leadership
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in food manufacturing or packaging
- Journeyman-level mechanical skills
- Strong background in mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, and piping
- Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
- Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds as required
