SummaryMaintains the district's school buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they represent no problems or interruptions to the educational program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Assist in maintaining seasonal grounds work (snow, lawn).
- Clean and preserve designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the building.
- Restock disposable items and provide head custodian with inventory usage and data.
- Assist visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment.
- Maintain building and grounds security each school day.
- Maintain working knowledge of custodial machinery and equipment.
- Perform minor building repair work.
- Substitute for head custodian on a short-term basis.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Assist in cleaning boilers.
- Perform related work as required by supervisor.

QualificationsEducation: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Language
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups and other employees.
Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s; perform these operations using units of American money and weight, volume, and distance.
Computer
Skills:
Basic knowledge and experience with job‑related computer hardware and software applications.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Other Skills & Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and community; perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical DemandsMust regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, tool controls, and speak or hear; reach with hands and arms; sit occasionally; squat, stoop or kneel frequently; reach above head; use hand strength to grasp tools; climb ladders; bend or twist at neck and trunk more than average. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally heavier with assistance;
push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Vision: close vision, color vision, peripheral, depth perception; adjust focus.
Works indoors predominantly, occasionally outdoors. Near or with moving mechanical equipment. May work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers and sprays. Must meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Noise level usually moderate.
