District Wide where needed.

Date Available:

ASAP.

Closing Date: until filled.

Reports to:

Head Custodian.

Work Hours:

4 hours/day 5 days a week.

Summary

Maintains the district's school buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they represent no problems or interruptions to the educational program.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining seasonal grounds work (snow, lawn).
  • Clean and preserve designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the building.
  • Restock disposable items and provide head custodian with inventory usage and data.
  • Assist visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment.
  • Maintain building and grounds security during each school day.
  • Working knowledge of the care of custodian machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform minor building repair work.
  • Ability to substitute for head custodian on a short‑term basis.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Assist in cleaning boilers.
  • Perform related work as required by supervisor.
Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups and other employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Computer Skills

Basic knowledge and experience with job‑related computer hardware and software applications.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Other

Skills and Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee frequently bends or twists at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks; occasionally heavier items may be lifted with assistance. The employee may push or pull items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment includes indoor and occasional outdoor settings. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment and may handle toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers and sprays. The employee must meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Salary

$20.00/hr.
