TITLE:
Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment will provide leadership and vision in the ongoing planning, implementation, development, direction, review and evaluation of the district's curriculum and instructional services, federal programs, career and technical education services, assessment, research and evaluation services.
The Director ensures that the district/school education objectives are aligned to state frameworks and to instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Primary Duties
- Support all aspects of district instructional and curriculum integration of technology.
- Responsible for textbook selection and ordering process.
- Oversee the curriculum for library services and work collaboratively with librarian.
- Participates regularly in District administrative team meetings, K-8 subject area curriculum committee meetings, and Board curriculum committee meetings.
- Assists District Administrator in the development and implementation of all board policies regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Attends workshops, meetings and conventions to remain updated on trends and developments in curriculum, instruction and assessment.
- Coordinate the review/assessment of current curriculum to ensure that course/program is meeting intended objectives and requirements.
- Prepare instructional material for printing and develop outlines with the necessary basic details to direct instruction.
- Develop and maintain research database that may be utilized to develop and review curriculum.
- Identify guest speakers and trainers on topic, and develop activities that will train teachers academic content and in best practices in education.
- Aggressively pursue opportunities to learn best practices in teacher professional development through research, professional development, and other learning opportunities.
- Provide in-class support and coaching to teachers using designated curricula, including coaching on teacher strategies, help connecting to outside speakers on resources, and assistance in leading classroom activities and lessons.
- Coordinate and Supervise the Instructional Support program for the district, including implementation of a consistent K-8 Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI) system.
- Participate in the interview and selection process of the instructional staff as appropriate.
- Coordinate the Teacher Induction Program and district orientation programs and activities of new teachers and administrators.
- Participate in the supervision process of beginning teachers through classroom observations and conferences.
- Conduct formal and informal observations and supervision of staff.
- Conduct observations of any teachers placed on an improvement plan.
- Counsel with principal and teachers on matters of district-wide concerns.
- Make recommendations pertaining to policy and procedure to the Superintendent.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Coordinates the adoption, budgeting, and evaluation of the District instructional materials (textbooks, software, and instructional technology) on annual basis.
- With administrative and staff support and input, facilitate all K-8 subject area curriculum committees.
- Facilitates meetings of the Board's curriculum committee and advisory committees as needed.
- Coordinates development and maintenance of all District curriculum maps, materials and publications.
- Coordinates development and evaluation of the District's instructional benchmarks for all subject areas.
- Reports to the Superintendent and Board on curricular programs and makes recommendations for any changes to the curriculum.
- Serves as the District's staff development director.
- Develops and evaluates the District's instructional supervision and evaluation program.
- Coordinates the District's mentoring program and support program for initial and newly hired educators.
- Responsible for the development, review and budgeting of the District's staff development program.
- Coordinates District-wide-in-service programs.
- Assists and trains administrative staff in the implementation of the instructional supervision and evaluation programs.
- Serves as the District Assessment Director for implementation of District, state and national assessments.
- Develops reviews and evaluates the District's assessment procedures, practices and programs.
- Provides analysis of assessment data for the Administrative Team, instructional staff, and Board and community.
- Reports to the Board on student achievement at all levels and in all programs as measured through the District and state assessment systems.
