PRIMARY FUNCTION
  • The Principal will provide instructional leadership and administration to ensure that students achieve in
    math and reading.
  • The Principal will administer the school to create opportunities for student growth and development,
    both academically and personally.
  • Reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS
Direct supervision over:
1. Licensed Staff.
2. Dean of School Culture
3. All regular instructional and other professional staff members assigned to the principal.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
In addition to the primary function, the elementary principal shall be responsible for:
1. Provides leadership in the implementation of current research-based instructional practices.
2. Participates in the selection of new teaching and classified personnel.
3. Observes, counsels, and motivates professional staff toward performances to attain the educational goals
of the District.
4. Utilizes to the fullest extent possible, all available school facilities, materials, and staff service
personnel.
5. Continually evaluates existing programs and practices, and curriculum content.
6. Analyzes new programs that fit the needs of the school and pilots them in a systematic manner to
evaluate their effect on teaching and learning.
7. Maintains an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and
participating attitude on the part of all teachers and students.
8. Maintains a standard of student behavior designed to command respect and minimize school and
classroom interruptions.
9. Encourages and initiates continued improvement in curriculum and teaching methods in cooperation
with District Administration, subject area specialists, and faculty.
10. Identifies intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs affecting students' success in school, and
takes steps to direct and coordinate the efforts of teachers and parents with staff services and special education
personnel.
11. Maintains effective communication to keep staff, students and parents properly informed.
12. Responsible for new staff orientation for all personnel assigned to the school.
13. Ensures school records available and up to date for ready reference and reporting.
14. Plans and conducts faculty meetings in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreements.
15. Utilizes data to inform decisions around all aspects of student achievement and school improvement.
16. Recommends changes which will lead to improved student achievement.
17. Makes recommendations to District Administration on any matter which will improve the excellence of the
District.
18. Actively participates and encourages staff participation in parent-teacher and other community groups, as a
means of developing understanding, cooperation, and respect for school objectives and endeavors.
19. Promotes professional development in MTSS, reading, math, science, social studies, physical education and
health, the arts, and technology.
20. Attends professional conferences, seminars, and workshops in education and/or educational administration.
21. Knows and adheres to all policies and administrative procedures adopted by the Board of Education.
22. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction
2. Illinois Professional Educator License or ability to obtain Illinois licensure with General Administration or
Principal endorsement
3. Successful completion of teacher evaluator training
4. Successful completion of principal evaluator training
5. At least 6 years of successful teaching experience.

SALARY RANGE
$99,000-$125,000
