JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title:
School Safety Officer
Reports to:
Chief School Business Official (CSBO)
Type of Employment:
10-month, full-time, at-will employee
FLSA Status:
Non-exempt
Salary/Benefits:
Rate of pay and other benefits established by the Board of Education. The School Safety Officer shall be paid on a salary-basis, payable semi-monthly over 24 pay periods, for all hours worked.
Overview:
The primary function of the School Safety Officer is to ensure the overall safety and security of the School District's students, staff, administration, and guests. The School Safety Officer assists the School District's administration with enforcing policies and procedures for a safe and orderly school at the building level.
Essential Duties:
The School Safety Officer's essential duties include, but are not limited to:
Working Environment:
Duties are normally performed inside the school building, but may involve periods outdoors in all weather conditions.

The position's physical requirements include the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time, the ability to articulate information in an emergency situation, and the use of physical agility and strength to defend self and detain persons when necessary.
Qualifications/Skills:
The minimum qualifications for the School Safety Officer are:
- The Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) (18 U.S.C.
- 926 (c)). - The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standard Board (50 ILCS 705/10.4).
- The Federal Gun Free School Zones Act (18 U.S.C.
- 922(q)(2)(A) et seq.). - The Illinois School Code (105 ILCS 5/10.27.1A(a)).
- The Illinois Firearm Concealed Carry Act (430 ILCS 66/65)
