Temporary Residential Building Porter

Temporary Residential Building Porter Paths is a full-scale, vertically integrated affordable housing developer, builder, and operator. Summary/Objective:
The Temporary Residential Building Porter is responsible for assisting the Property Management and Maintenance teams with the day-to-day cleanliness, appearance, and upkeep of residential apartment communities.

This is a full-time temporary position supporting residential buildings throughout New York City and Long Island based on operational coverage needs. Assignments, schedules, and work locations may vary depending on business needs, and employees may support different properties rather than one fixed location.

Essential function/Responsibilities: duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain the daily cleanliness of residential buildings and common areas, including lobbies, hallways, stairwells, elevators, laundry rooms, restrooms, offices, and other shared spaces.
  • Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning spills, window cleaning, stripping, waxing, buffing floors, and other assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Handle daily trash and recycling, including removing trash bags, emptying compactors as assigned, breaking down and tying cardboard, and bringing trash and recyclables to designated pickup areas.
  • Assist with trash room and compactor area cleanliness.
  • Prepare vacant apartments for occupancy by removing items left behind and leaving units in broom-swept condition.
  • Perform exterior building and grounds upkeep, including sidewalks, entrances, walkways, parking areas, exterior stairwells, curbs, gutters, landscaped areas, and other exterior property spaces.
  • Assist with moving supplies, furniture, bulk items, and other property materials as needed.
  • Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, air filters, blinds, shades, and other basic duties as assigned.
  • Place floor mats and runners during inclement weather and assist with snow removal, storm preparation, and weather-related cleanup as directed.
  • Report unsafe conditions, leaks, damage, pest concerns, unsecured doors, resident concerns, or other property issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist the Property Manager, Superintendent, Maintenance Supervisor, Lead Porter, and maintenance team with additional property needs as assigned.
  • Safely use cleaning products, equipment, and supplies in accordance with company procedures.
  • Communicate professionally with residents, vendors, visitors, and fellow team members.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, property policies, and supervisor instructions.

Pay Range: $18.00 per hour

Requirements:

  • Prior porter, janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, sanitation, facilities, groundskeeping, building maintenance, or similar hands-on cleaning experience preferred.
  • Residential apartment, commercial building, hotel, healthcare, school, warehouse, or similar facilities experience preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of safety hazards and proper use of cleaning products and sanitizing solutions.
  • Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment including industrial vacuums, buffers, floor machines, wet vacuums, and related equipment.
  • Basic floor care experience, including buffing, stripping, waxing, or operating floor machines, is a plus.
  • Ability to perform physical work throughout the day, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, and working indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Professional, courteous demeanor when interacting with residents, staff, vendors, and visitors.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working at different residential properties based on operational needs.
  • Comfortable using phone calls, text messages, email, and/or mobile applications for work communication when needed.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
