Firefighter​/Paramedic

The Brookfield Fire Department will fill four vacancies for Certified Paramedic positions. Candidates must be certified by the Illinois Department of Public Health or hold National Registry certification. Applicants must upload all required documentation to their profile by August 21, 2026. A $10,000 signing bonus is paid after completing probation. Additional slotting is offered for each year of full‑time service completed.

• Valid paramedic license issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health or national registry.
• Pass the written examination.
• Pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). Any valid CPAT certified within the last year is acceptable.
• Submit a Personal History Statement within five days of passing the exams.
• Age 21 or older (no exemption unless state law allows).
• High‑school graduate or GED.
• Valid driver’s license.
• No adult felony convictions. All felony convictions must be disclosed.
• Proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing English.
• Veterans preference points awarded where applicable.
• Preference points for education and experience.

• 4 points for a bachelor’s degree in fire service or EMS.
• 3 points for a bachelor’s degree in another field.
• 2 points for an associate’s degree in fire service or EMS.

• 0.5 point per year for on‑call or part‑time certified firefighter II, EMT, A‑EMT, or equivalent (max 5 points).
• 1 point per year for certified firefighter III or licensed paramedic (max 5 points).
• 5 points for full‑time firefighter or firefighter‑paramedic in another jurisdiction for at least 2 years.
• 4 points for paramedic license at the time of exam.
• 1 point for regional VIII EMS paramedic.
• 3 points for basic operations firefighter certification.
• 2 points for residency within Brookfield jurisdiction.

• Any false statement or falsified application during the hiring process.
• Lied during any stage of the hiring process.
