Public Service Worker (PSWII) - Building Services (FT

Brooklyn Park Local 49 members will be given priority placement in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement at five (5) days.

The City of Brooklyn Park is hiring one Public Service Worker in Building Services. This position supports the Public Works Department, Building Maintenance Division and provides for the operation, repair and maintenance of Public Buildings;
City Hall, Police Stations, Fire Stations and Public Works Facilities; to include mechanical systems, refrigeration equipment and the implementation of the preventative maintenance program. Provides high levels of customer service to both internal and external customers. Coordinates with vendors and contractors for the completion of projects. Procures needed supplies for daily operations.

• Perform skilled work in building maintenance tasks.
• Perform routine and emergency maintenance repairs.
• Observe and assist with the coordination of project records and maintenance records.
• Coordinate, observe, lead, and assist with departmental projects.
• Assist in monitoring and overseeing contractors.
• Conduct inspections, maintain records, and perform maintenance to ensure infrastructure is safe, operational and in neat appearance.
• Follow up on concerns and other matters of public interest related to City infrastructure.
• Assist with the planning of annual division/section tasks, projects, and activities.
• Coordinate and lead divisional work crews to perform departmental and division system operations and maintenance as defined by position step qualifications list. perform manual labor as required.
• Perform maintenance of building interiors, exteriors, and building mechanical systems.
• Perform custodial maintenance as needed in buildings.
• Perform general grounds maintenance and landscaping as needed.
• Perform snow and ice control operations, with primary responsibility of sidewalks; may also assist with parking lots.
• Perform routine minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Receive, coordinate and respond to requests and work orders.
• Respond and provide assistance in emergency or essential operations for all Public Works divisions.
• Perform standby duty on a scheduled rotation.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Two (2) years of work experience in non-janitorial building maintenance.

• Valid driver's license (Class 'D' or higher).
• Minnesota Special boilers license within six (6) months of hire.
• Must obtain Grade C boilers license within eighteen (18) months of acquiring Special boilers license.
• CPR certification within two (2) years of hire

An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

• Ability to successfully complete a physical examination, including passing a drug test.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, outside of regularly scheduled hours, as needed.
• Ability to comprehend and execute written and oral instructions.
• Ability to be cross trained in the divisions:
  Park Maintenance, Street Maintenance, and Utility Maintenance.
• Ability to perform maintenance and repair tasks in one or more of the following divisions:
  Park Maintenance, Street Maintenance, and Utility Maintenance.
• Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including but not limited to lifting, bending, climbing, reaching overhead, pushing, and pulling.
• Ability to perform job responsibilities in climatic extremes common to Minnesota.
• Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets or exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction.

• Previous training/experience in hazardous materials (i.e., ammonia refrigeration).
• Possess a valid Minnesota Class "A or B" Commercial Driver's License.
• Possess a universal refrigeration license.
• Three (3) years of experience non-janitorial building maintenance.
• Experience in repair and maintenance of HVAC equipment.
