Position SummaryThe Maintenance Worker/Handyperson ensures that all building structures and surroundings are maintained to provide a safe, secure, and sanitary environment. The Maintenance Worker/Handyperson also ensures compliance with all OSHA and safety laws, rules, and regulations.
Principal Responsibilities- Preventive maintenance tasks within the buildings and on the grounds including mopping, waxing floors, etc.
- Report to the building superintendent on a daily basis.
- Respond to all daily requests for repairs.
- Perform light plumbing work and other minor repairs such as clearing clogged sinks, changing light bulbs, etc.
- Maintain the common areas, i.e., laundry facilities.
- Maintain outdoor grounds including sweeping, garbage removal, light painting, snow removal, and storm maintenance.
- Other responsibilities as required.
- Skilled in basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work to complete building repairs
- Knowledge of NYC law, rules and regulations regarding building maintenance and safety including but not limited to HPD, FDNY, DEP, DSNY, DOB
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, residents, community service agencies, and the public
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple demands to accomplish tasks in accordance with established requirements
- Skilled in analyzing situations in order to identify problems and offer possible solutions
- Skilled in communicating with all types of people in a wide variety of situations
- 1+ years of maintenance experience (required)
- OSHA certificate a plus
- Required Constantly:
Walking, lifting and/or carrying of materials and tools between 25-50 lbs, climbing stairs - Required Frequently:
Climbing ladders, operating machinery - Required Occasionally:
Shoveling of snow, reaching above the shoulder, pushing and pulling
