Maintenance Worker
CAMBA's Short Term Housing Program (STHP) provides 35 units of congregate and transitional housing to PLWHA who are homeless or at serious risk of homelessness. There are 7 clients residing at CAMBA's congregate facility located at 27 Winthrop Street and 28 community apartments. In addition, there are 19 clients residing at 23 and 25 Winthrop. Winthrop Houses provide a model of service that addresses the interrelated problems of HIV and homelessness.
Through a congregate residence and community apartments the programs we provide transitional and emergency housing, case management support, and housing readiness training in a supportive environment, which will help clients develop the skills to find and maintain permanent, stable housing.
The Maintenance Worker reports to the Program Manager and is located at 27 Winthrop St, Brooklyn, NY 11225. The Maintenance Worker's responsibilities include:
- Cleaning rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, and other work areas.
- Performing weekly room inspections for all congregate housing units.
- Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors.
- Cleaning rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
- Dusting furniture and equipment.
- Washing walls, ceiling, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.
- Ensuring that bathroom supplies are always replenished.
- Removing trash and bringing trash and waste to disposal area and consolidating for pickup.
- Assisting clients in maintaining an appropriate living environment.
- Observing and reporting irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
- Keeping management informed of dangerous situations.
- Ensuring that all rooms have operable smoke detectors.
- Getting rooms ready for occupancy within 24 hours.
- Ensuring that rooms are equipped with required items at all times.
- Maintaining professional relationships with clients and client confidentiality.
- Practicing universal precautions.
- Participating in administrative and staff meetings as requested.
Minimum education/experience required:
- Sufficient education and technical expertise to comprehend written and oral instructions (work orders); basic math to accomplish maintenance tasks and to document accomplished tasks.
Other requirements:
- Good written & verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Cleaning experience.
