GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs entry‑level building maintenance and construction work and is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and visitor services at a State Park. The employee performs all phases of maintenance on facilities, buildings, vehicles, equipment, and grounds, operates various types of equipment—including hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, tractors, and other mechanical equipment—performs preventive maintenance and repairs, and assists with visitor services such as customer service, fee collection, public relations, safety, and security.
Work is conducted under close supervision with minimal latitude for initiative and independent judgment, and additional duties may be assigned as needed. Compliance with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations and procedures is mandatory.
Perform facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance; operate mechanical equipment and power tools; conduct preventive maintenance and repairs; provide customer service and fee collection; adhere to park rules and safety procedures; work independently or as part of a team; adapt to changing schedules and working conditions.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Completion of 8th grade.
Experience: One year of experience in facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance. Volunteer or personal experience counts toward this requirement.
Licensure: Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid State driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge: General facility, building, and grounds repair and cleaning techniques; landscaping and grounds maintenance; natural and cultural resources; basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial and mechanical maintenance; basic mathematics.
Skills: Proficiency in hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, tractors, chainsaws, generators, vehicles; MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; effective verbal and written communication; standard office equipment; customer service; decision making.
Abilities: Work independently with minimal supervision; work as a member of a team; follow park rules; adapt to frequent interruptions and changing priorities; safely and effectively operate hand and power tools and mechanical equipment; accurately collect fees using a computerized point‑of‑sale system; lift supplies and materials up to 50 lbs; conduct work in accordance with the TPWD safety program.
WORKING CONDITIONS- Required to work 40 hours per week, often outside the 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. window, with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
- Required to adjust to changing schedules and work overtime as necessary.
- Required to perform work outdoors, including in adverse weather conditions.
- Required to lift supplies and materials up to 50 lbs and may be required to operate a state vehicle.
- Required to travel up to 5% of the time with the position.
