Job SummaryUnder supervision, this position performs a variety of routine and physically demanding facility maintenance tasks to ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of building systems and equipment.
Responsibilities Facility Maintenance Technician Apprentice- Assists staff with basic cleaning and upkeep of equipment and facilities, including filter and belt replacements and general equipment maintenance.
- Supports general building maintenance tasks such as trash removal, lightbulb replacement, and other custodial duties.
- Paints structures and equipment as required. Assist in the set up and tear down of furniture, tables, chairs, and other office and conference room equipment as needed.
- Operates light equipment and trucks including hand tools, powered tools, landscaping equipment, janitorial tools, and minor test equipment.
- Works shift schedule and call‑out duty as needed (including nights, weekends, and holidays) and participates in emergency response efforts.
- Completes other job duties as assigned.
- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of a variety of equipment and facilities; greases and makes minor repairs on HVAC equipment and replaces filters, belts, motors, coils, and capacitors as part of the preventative maintenance program.
- Assists in maintenance of HVAC and heating systems, building automation system, plumbing, lighting, landscape irrigation, fire alarm, fire protection systems, and other electrical work as required. Reports conditions to supervisors and acts accordingly to correct any problems.
- Participates in maintenance and cleaning of buildings such as repairing or replacing leaky faucets, replacing light bulbs, removing trash on the grounds surrounding the building area, sweeping exterior entry sidewalks, etc. Responds to cleanups and spills and may assist with custodial tasks such as cleaning and clearing clogged urinals, toilets, sewers or drains.
- Completes preventative maintenance and minor repairs on HVAC systems, plumbing, lighting, and fire protection systems.
- Serves as primary contact for 24‑hour response needs and supervise team readiness for emergency protocols.
- Oversees and coordinates maintenance activities across systems including HVAC, automation, and electrical infrastructure.
- Leads setup and teardown operations for office and conference spaces; manages painting and structural upkeep.
- Assists supervisors in preparing and distributing daily work assignments to staff, ensuring coverage for all operational areas and adjusting schedules as needed to meet service demands or project timelines.
- Senior Facility Maintenance Technician may provide training, technical support, and guidance to less experienced departmental staff.
- Lead Facility Maintenance Technician provides leadership and direction to less experienced staff and may assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in their absence.
- Knowledge of equipment, methods, and materials used in routine painting and carpentry.
- Some knowledge of the precautions necessary to work safely with and around mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Skill in courteously dealing with the public and employees, in person, writing, on the radio and by telephone.
- Skill in understanding and following oral and/or written instructions in English.
- Ability to perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance under variable weather conditions i.e., bending, squatting, stretching, lifting, pulling, pushing, twisting, and climbing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective public relations through frequent contact with internal and external customers.
- Ability to learn how to use an electronic work order management system (Cityworks, Azteca), Building Automation System (BAS), and Microsoft office programs.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
