Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician, Mechanical at Next Decade, located in Brownsville, TX, supports daily mechanical maintenance execution activities, ensuring safe and quality work practices while maximizing equipment availability across the facility.
- Demonstrate a proactive safety attitude at all times.
- Always use safe work practices and follow Next Decade lifesaving rules and permitting processes.
- Maintain a high focus on safety and wellbeing of the execution team, leading by example to set and maintain a positive safety culture of compliance and continuous improvement for apprentices and contractors.
- Engage and communicate effectively with other departments such as Engineering, Operations, Safety, Procurement, Training, Planning, specialist vendors and contractors, upholding the One-Team approach.
- Provide initial support and continued review of preventative and corrective maintenance plans.
- Review maintenance documentation, such as work instructions, job safety analysis, and safety work management manuals, permitting, and red‑lining of documents.
- Participate in mechanical maintenance execution activities of all breakdowns, corrective, and preventative maintenance in the facility.
- Support turnarounds as required.
- Safely complete all assigned activities to a high standard.
- Perform Permit Holder requirements for execution of work at RGLNG.
- Maintain personal training and competency compliance.
- Actively participate in all required maintenance meetings, including HSSE meetings, pre‑start, and tailgate meetings.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in execution of mechanical maintenance activities.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and documentation.
- Exceptional working knowledge of CMMS systems (SAP or similar).
- Experience developing and reviewing critical maintenance procedures.
- Exceptional working knowledge of an MOC process.
- Experience in frontline leadership during turnarounds.
- Relevant LNG mechanical pipefitter maintenance experience, including fabrication and/or repair of piping and use of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW), and blinding of pipes, vessels, tanks, and exchangers.
- Mechanical LNG experience including turbo machinery, compressors, loading arms, PSV's, pumps, motors, vessels, valves, actuators, fin fans, and flange management.
- Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Hands‑on working method.
- Participation as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to support on‑site emergencies.
- Ability to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC).
- Technical degree in Industrial Mechanical or similar and NCCER certification (Millwright/Pipefitter/Boilermaker).
- 5+ years hydrocarbon/petrochemical experience in a mechanical maintenance technician role.
- Operates in a complex construction environment.
- Work conduct both indoors with computer systems such as DCS and outdoors in the field under challenging weather conditions for extended periods.
- Must wear all mandatory PPE equipment and be physically capable of traveling to a designated muster point during emergencies.
- Must communicate clearly in English via radio, phone, and verbal methods.
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions; able to handle hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions.
- Lift up to 40 pounds unassisted and push/pull with up to 50 pounds of force.
- Grip objects with up to 50 pounds of force.
- Frequent standing, walking, balancing, including climbing stairs and ladders.
- Regular reaching, bending, stooping, handling, and spinal twisting.
- Use of hands, arms, and legs to lift, push, and pull machinery and mechanical components.
