Duties Description
Position Summary:
The Division of Student Life invites applications for our Janitor position. In this role, you will perform cleaning and general janitorial services in Campus Living's residential and institutional facilities.
Your duties will include:
* Cleaning and servicing buildings by sweeping and mopping offices, halls, stairways, and other units
* Waxing and buffing floors
* Gathering and disposing of refuse
* Servicing lavatories and fixtures
* Cleaning lighting fixtures, replacing light bulbs, and washing windows
* Moving furniture and equipment as applicable
* Assisting with sweeping walkways, shoveling snow
* Supervising the work of other staff as applicable; providing day to day assignments
* Responding to requests and the emergency need for janitorial services
In a typical year, Campus Living houses up to 7,500 students skilled trades and custodial staff care for the buildings our students live in. Our priority is the health and safety of our students. Without dedicated cleaners and maintenance staff, the university would not be able to have a residential program.
In the event of an emergency, services related to the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and guests, and the security and maintenance of facilities are essential and must continue. Employees hired into this position are designated as 'Level 1' meaning they are considered essential and are expected to report to campus so that these services will continue without disruption.

Minimum Qualifications:
* Applicant must be able to physically perform the tasks of the position and to communicate effectively to obtain and convey information.
Departmental Operation Needs:
* A NYS driver's license or demonstrated ability to meet the travel requirement of traveling between campuses as necessary
* The ability to quickly and appropriately respond to situations that require janitorial services.
* Since activities of other employees depend on the availability of the employee in this position, reliable attendance is a factor.
Physical Demands:
* Routine tasks require light, moderate and/or heavy physical effort.
* Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds.
* Must have the ability to stand, stoop, bend, and stretch for long periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Institutional cleaning experience is preferred.
* Excellent attendance record and documented experience in supervising others.
