Facilities Technician
The Facilities Technician supports the day-to-day operation and maintenance of Calspan's facilities by performing a variety of indoor and outdoor maintenance, repair, and building support activities. This role is responsible for preventive maintenance, responding to maintenance requests, assisting with facility repairs, and helping ensure a safe, efficient, and well-maintained work environment. The ideal candidate is hands-on, mechanically inclined, and able to perform a wide range of facility maintenance tasks while supporting the needs of our employees and operations.
ResponsibilitiesDemonstrate proficiency in all duties and responsibilities of Facilities Technician I and II positions. Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in one or more building trades, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, mechanical repair, and general building maintenance. Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems, equipment, and building infrastructure. Inspect buildings, equipment, and facility grounds to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and operational deficiencies.
Complete assigned work orders, repairs, and maintenance tasks with indirect supervision. Maintain compliance with applicable building codes, company standards, and safety regulations. Assist with office moves, furniture assembly, facility set-ups, and general labor activities as required. Operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively. Operate material handling equipment including forklifts, lifts, and utility vehicles as authorized. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas at all times.
Mechanical / Building Systems Support. Assist with inspection, maintenance, and repair of facility mechanical systems and equipment. Support maintenance activities involving HVAC equipment, plumbing systems, pumps, exhaust systems, lighting, and building infrastructure. Replace filters, belts, light fixtures, ceiling tiles, plumbing fixtures, and other building components as needed. Assist with troubleshooting facility equipment and operational issues. Monitor facility conditions and report equipment malfunctions, leaks, damage, or safety hazards promptly.
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal personnel during maintenance and repair activities as directed.
Safety / Administrative Responsibilities. Follow all workplace safety procedures including lockout/tagout requirements and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Safely perform job duties in both indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions. Accurately complete maintenance records, inspection forms, and work order documentation. Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in good working condition. Mentor, train, and provide guidance to less experienced Facilities Technician staff.
Communicate professionally with tenants, coworkers, contractors, and management regarding maintenance activities and facility concerns. Respond to facility emergencies and urgent maintenance requests as needed. Perform other duties as assigned or directed by management.
Preferred Education and Experience. High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree and/or completion of building trades courses preferred. Minimum of 3 years of related facilities maintenance or building trades experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Working knowledge of general building maintenance and repair practices. Basic knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry systems. Ability to safely operate tools, maintenance equipment, and seasonal machinery. Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and safe equipment operation. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental and weather conditions. Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with tenants and coworkers. Ability to repetitively lift, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and up to 75 lbs with assistance.
