Building: Burbank Early Childhood School
Hours: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, Monday–Friday (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM)
Salary: Hourly $23.32 - $25.88 (0.25 shift differential)
Reports to: Mike Abbott, Executive Director of Operations
Employment Status: Classified - Regular/Full-time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Probationary Period: 120 days
Description: Provide a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and the community. Responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks in the school building and on the adjacent property. Perform general custodial duties (e.g., empty trash, vacuum carpet, sweep, mop, dust, wax, and maintain). Assist the head custodian as needed with cleaning and maintenance during the school s daily operations.
Work as a team to assist with the setup and teardown of school and non-school events.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One to two years of related experience

- Ensure the safety of students
- Schedule cleaning to meet the building s needs and complete tasks timely
- Empty and clean waste receptacles, trash pails, and pencil sharpeners
- Remove cobwebs and clean windows
- Polish furniture and woodwork
- Transport all necessary custodial supplies
- Load and unload trucks as needed
- Ensure the care, condition, appearance, repair, or replacement of all physical equipment, buildings, facilities, and grounds
- Promote good safety practices and procedures
- Clean and sanitize the assigned school (restrooms, classrooms, spills, etc.)
- Use, measure, and relabel chemicals appropriately
- Wash all furniture, walls, halls, windows, window seals, and doors
- Clean tables and student desks nightly
- Disinfect water fountains and water coolers
- Spot mop and mop classrooms
- Remove writing on walls and boards
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate respect for staff, students, and parents
- Interact positively with staff, students, and parents
- Dispose of debris and maintain equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner
- Report damaged or loose fixtures and/or equipment
- Adjust to various locations and work requirements; perform other duties as assigned
- Perform minor repairs as appropriate
- Request needed equipment, materials, and supplies
- Perform seasonal duties (e.g., salting and snow removal, litter removal) as directed
- Refill dispensers in restrooms
- Check the boiler room nightly for orderliness, cleanliness, and safety
- Secure the building nightly
- Clean and maintain custodial equipment and materials
- Repair equipment and buildings as needed
- Complete paperwork as required by the supervisor
- Attend meetings and in-services as required
- Maintain a daily work routine to service buildings, grounds, and personnel
- Check the building for security and ensure doors, windows, and entrances are secure
- Turn off and on lights as needed
- Clean and maintain all surfaces to maintain cleanliness throughout the building and grounds
- Keep work and storage areas neat and orderly
- Monitor building for hazardous conditions and maintenance needs
- Assist with setup, teardown, and cleanup for events and building use
- Maintain records as requested
- Promote good public relations
- Serve as a role model for students
- Respond to routine questions and requests appropriately
- Relay instructions and requests from administration
- Maintain building security systems and ensure the building is secure
- Ability to climb and remain stable at heights up to 25 feet
- Replace light bulbs in fixtures (up to 25 feet)
- Unclog sinks and toilets as needed using chemicals and plungers
- Maintain an accurate inventory of custodial equipment, materials, and supplies
