Position: Facilities Specialist (30 Hours)

Description

Position Summary

The Facilities Specialist is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and welcoming environment throughout Ralph Scott Life Services, Inc. administrative and day program facilities. The Facilities Specialist performs routine cleaning, sanitation, trash removal, and general facility upkeep in accordance with established schedules, procedures, and organizational standards.

The Facilities Specialist is expected to work independently, demonstrate attention to detail, maintain appropriate cleaning supplies and equipment, and promptly report maintenance, safety, or facility concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

The Facilities Specialist plays an important role in providing a clean, safe, and professional environment for individuals receiving services, employees, families, visitors, and community partners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all assigned facility areas.
  • Clean and maintain restrooms, offices, common areas, meeting spaces, and other designated areas.
  • Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors as needed.
  • Dust and clean surfaces, furniture, windows, doors, and other areas.
  • Restock necessary cleaning and facility supplies.
  • Empty and dispose of trash appropriately.
  • Maintain assigned areas in a clean, orderly, safe, and presentable condition.
  • Report maintenance, safety, or facility concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Work directly with the team to assist in ensuring transportation is arranged for day trips.

Supplies and Equipment

  • Monitor custodial supplies and notify the supervisor when supplies need to be replenished.
  • Properly use cleaning products, chemicals, and equipment according to established procedures and manufacturer instructions.
  • Maintain custodial equipment in good working condition.
  • Store cleaning supplies and equipment properly and securely.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment when required.

Safety and Facility Maintenance

  • Follow all applicable safety, sanitation, infection-control, and cleaning procedures.
  • Promptly report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, leaks, plumbing issues, damaged equipment, or other facility concerns.
  • Maintain floors and common areas in a manner that minimizes safety hazards.
  • Assist with special cleaning projects, facility preparation, organizational events, and other facility-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding individuals receiving services, employees, and organizational information.
  • Follow all Ralph Scott Life Services, Inc. policies and procedures.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional and respectful relationship with individuals receiving services, families, employees, visitors, and community members.
  • Respect the dignity, privacy, and rights of individuals receiving services.
  • Work cooperatively with staff across the organization.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must have NC drivers license.
  • Ability to perform custodial and cleaning duties effectively.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned responsibilities.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and custodial equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Ability to maintain professional conduct in a human-services environment.

Preferred

  • Previous custodial, housekeeping, environmental services, or facility-maintenance experience.
  • Experience working in a healthcare, human-services, educational, residential, or day-program setting.

Physical Requirements

The Custodian must be able to perform the physical activities associated with custodial work, including:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs.
  • Lifting and carrying cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Pushing and pulling cleaning carts and equipment.
  • Sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors.
  • Reaching overhead and into storage areas.
  • Moving and transporting trash.
  • Performing repetitive cleaning activities.
