Responsibilities
Providing inspection services to a variety of safety systems including fire extinguishers, sprinkler valves, carbon monoxide detectors, safety showers, eye wash systems, egress doors, emergency exit lights, emergency phones, etc. Maintaining accurate, updated records for all related equipment so the University remains in compliance with applicable codes. Issuing hot work and red‑tag permits, accessing information through appropriate computer software programs, promoting a workplace that encourages safety in the shop and in the field, and operating the University vehicle.
This position reports to a Supervisor and requires active engagement in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability, and delivering an excellent customer experience.
High School Diploma and two years’ experience handling fire equipment. Knowledge of fire protection regulations such as OSHA, VOSHA, BOCA, and NFPA. Experience using computers and mobile technology. Valid driver’s license and driver’s check required. Specific physical requirements may apply based on job functions. Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing specific job tasks. Initial employment contingent upon successful completion of background check and physical screening.
SpecialConditions
Probationary period may be required. Occasional evening and/or weekend work required. Ineligible for telework due to essential functions. Background check required. Pre‑employment physical examination required.
