Position Details

Life Safety Systems Mechanic

• Inspect safety systems including fire extinguishers, sprinkler valves, carbon monoxide detectors, safety showers, eye wash systems, egress doors, emergency exit lights, and emergency phones.
• Maintain accurate and updated records for all related equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
• Issue hot work and Red Tag permits.
• Access information utilizing appropriate computer software programs and desktop applications.
• Promote a workplace that encourages safety in the shop and in the field.
• Operate University vehicle.
• Report to a Supervisor and actively engage in learning and practicing principles of social justice, inclusion, environmental sustainability, and delivering great customer experience.

• High School Diploma and two years’ experience handling fire equipment.
• Knowledge of fire protection regulations such as OSHA, VOSHA, BOCA and NFPA.
• Experience using computers and mobile technology.
• Valid driver’s license and driver’s check.
• Specific physical requirements may apply based on job functions.
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing specific job tasks.
• Initial employment contingent upon successful completion of background check and physical screening.

Anticipated Pay Range $25.00‑$26.50/hr.

• Probationary period may be required.
• Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non‑exempt position, may result in overtime).
• This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions.
• Background Check required for this position.
• A post‑offer pre‑employment (POPE test) physical examination is required.
• FLSA Non‑Exempt Union Position Yes, UE ($18.50 minimum hourly rate).

Position will be posted for a minimum of one week, after which it is subject to removal without notice.
