Job Description

Perform a variety of custodial cleaning services in a team setting for University facilities. Tasks include dust mopping, sweeping, wet mopping, top scrubbing and buffing of floors, periodic floor stripping, cleaning water fountains, waste receptacles, and windows. Maintain a safe and clean living, learning, and work environment, remove trash and recyclables, and respond to after‑hours emergency calls. Operate University vehicle as required.

This position supports the department’s mission of providing a clean, safe, and healthy university environment.

Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain floor surfaces: dust mop, sweep, wet mop, top scrub, buff, and periodically strip floors of finish using powered scrubbing and burnishing machines.
  • Clean water fountains, waste receptacles, and wash windows.
  • Maintain safe and clean living, learning and work environment.
  • Remove trash and recycled items.
  • Respond to after‑hours emergency calls when required.
  • Operate University vehicle.
  • Engage in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability, and delivering great customer service.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma and one year of custodial experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak basic English.
  • Completion of ten‑hour OSHA training on construction, safety, and health issues.
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain a driver’s license and pass a driver’s check (may be required). Basic computer skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 50 lbs occasionally; ability to climb ladders and shovel snow.
  • Availability to respond to after‑hours emergency call‑ins as needed.

Pay

Anticipated Pay Range: $19.45 (external);
Current +5% for Internal Promotion (approx $20‑20.50).

Additional Information
  • A criminal background check is required for the top candidate prior to offer.
  • A probationary period may be required.
  • Occasional evenings and/or weekends may be required.
  • This position is ineligible for telework due to essential functions.
  • A post‑offer pre‑employment physical examination is required.
