Property Services

The Grounds/Maintenance Utility personnel is a non-exempt/hourly position that reports to the Director of Property Services. This position is a member of the AFSCME union under the Property Services Employees master agreement. The role provides a variety of maintenance and grounds services to meet the needs of the district. We seek a team player with a positive attitude, reliable transportation, good time management, and knowledge of operating power tools and equipment.

In addition to great health benefits and paid time off, this full‑time position starts at $17.00/hr – $18.50/hr based on experience. Hours for 1 st shift positions are primarily 6:00 am – 2:30 pm. Hours and work location are subject to change to reflect facility needs.

Essential Functions
  • Operates snow plow and salt truck to remove ice and snow from roads and assigned areas, including sanding/salting roads and walkways.
  • Shovels snow, performs grounds maintenance, and other duties related to facilities and roads maintenance.
  • Operates a variety of tools, machinery, and equipment, including shovel, rakes, ax, brooms, forks, leaf blowers, and other power and hand tools.
  • Operates commercial ground equipment such as dump trucks, tractors, front‑end loaders, zero‑turn mowers, snow blowers, chainsaws, and other equipment.
  • Mows and edges lawns, weeds, maintains flower and shrub gardening, and mulches landscape beds.
  • Trims hedges, shrubs, and small trees; removes dead, damaged, or unwanted trees or branches.
  • General maintenance and athletic field maintenance.
  • Follows all safety rules, policies, and regulations; able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Notifies the Director of Property Services of any safety or other issues that may require immediate corrective response.
  • Maintains accountability in maintaining assigned tools and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Property Services and/or their designee.
Required

Education and Experience

Education
:
Minimum required – High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience
:

  • Valid Vermont driver’s license.
  • Working English language skills.
  • Relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge
    :
    Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.
  • General knowledge
    :
    Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations.
  • Thorough knowledge
    :
    Advanced knowledge of the subject matter; able to solve unusual as well as common work problems and advise on technical matters.
