Maintenance Utility Technician – 1st Shift

Job DescriptionThis position provides a variety of maintenance and custodial services to support the school district. The incumbent serves as a roving custodian, filling in for other custodial staff and performing light maintenance duties across all district schools.
Essential Functions- Assume the responsibilities and duties of a Head Custodian and/or a Building Custodian when such employees are absent.
- Perform repairs, preventative maintenance, and other projects as assigned.
- Use brooms, brushes, mops, power‑operated scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, buffers, shampooers, wet vacuums, liquid waxes and degreasers, dust absorbers, and other custodial supplies.
- Assist trades workers, grounds workers and custodians.
- Implement and follow through work resulting from safety and asbestos inspections.
- Exercise leadership and responsibility for school facilities.
- Assure continuity when acting as Head Custodian to second shift Building Custodians.
- Notify the Director of Property Services of any safety or other issues requiring immediate corrective response.
- Maintain accountability in maintaining and inventorying assigned tools and equipment.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Property Services and/or their designee.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (minimum required).
- Valid Vermont driver’s license.
- Working English language skills.
- Relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of custodial systems and terminology.
- Ability to use and care for building service equipment and supplies according to written and oral instructions.
- Ability to read and write at an acceptable level.
- Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals.
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, meet deadlines and schedules.
- Ability to perform work requiring moderate to heavy labor.
- Salary: $20.50–$23.44 per hour based on experience. Hourly position paid bi‑weekly with applicable shift differential.
- Benefits: Health benefits, paid time off, and other benefits eligible on start date; 30 days to enroll in coverage.
- Paid Time: Sick time, personal time, holidays, vacation as per the Master Agreement.
