The Harborvale in Burlington is the newest hospitality offering by Westport Hospitality, the team behind Hotel Vermont, the nationally recognized Condé Nast Traveler “Best Hotel in New England.” As Vermont’s first Autograph Collection hotel and only the third in New England, The Harborvale promises to be “Exactly Like Nothing Else.”

The Harborvale is seeking a Maintenance Manager to join our newly reimagined, one-of-a-kind property located in downtown Burlington, Vermont, set on the shores of Lake Champlain. The Harborvale’s story is inspired by the wonder and sense of place that Lake Champlain provides; the adventure of fresh experiences, the opportunity to reminisce about fond memories while creating new stories to share.

Position Overview:

The Maintenance Manager develops, implements, reviews and continuously updates a comprehensive, fully documented preventative maintenance program for all building systems and equipment. The Maintenance Manager ensures the property is effectively maintained to maximize the lifespan of building assts and equipment assets and equipment, minimizing disruptions to guest enjoyment, and prevent major maintenance incidents.

The Maintenance Manager also serves as the hotel’s Safety Manager, ensuring all required safety meetings and training sessions are conducted, building and equipment permits and licenses remain current, and any identified safety concerns or regulatory infractions are addressed promptly and with priority to maintain compliance and provide a safe environment for guests and employees.

The Maintenance Manager helps create a comfortable, reliable, and welcoming environment for every guest. Through proactive leadership, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence, the Maintenance Manager supports The Harborvale’s spirit of hospitality from arrival to departure.

Core Responsibilities:
  • To coordinate and manage the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the hotel as it pertains to engineering and grounds, under the direction of hotel leadership.
  • To continually support and improve engineering services that effectively address problems affecting the building, guests and team members.
  • To promote and encourage training within the department and other staff with regards to building maintenance, safety and operation. Utilize company and external resources to facilitate training. Set an example of continuous self-development.
  • To have the ability to operate independently and be able to analyze problems and to formulate plans to get work done efficiently including procurement of materials, parts, etc., and necessary scheduling arrangements with a high degree of quality.
  • Language skills require the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules (i.e., Lockout Tagout, JSAs), Safety Awareness information (such as MDS) operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, logs, and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with customers, vendors and team members.
  • Manage repair and maintenance project and building improvements by effectively coordinating and planning all tasks in advance of beginning any project. Utilize all possible resources. Coordinate efforts with engineering and other affected departments. Use project management techniques along with the appropriately assigned engineering team members to perform project planning and execution. All methods, materials and practices must meet and be in accordance with local codes, Westport Hospitality specifications (Marriott standards), national codes, and standard practices.

    Keep accurate completion and task records in the project files. Materials procurement and coordination of their availability are also critical to the success of your position.
