Position: Apartment Maintenance Technician $27-$29/hr

Maintenance Technician

This role provides hands-on maintenance support for a residential apartment community in West St. Paul. The Maintenance Technician ensures that building systems, apartments, and common areas remain safe, functional, and well-maintained while delivering responsive and courteous service to residents.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to maintenance requests from residents in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Troubleshoot and repair common apartment issues, including sinks, toilets, light fixtures, HVAC components, and other household systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance duties throughout the buildings to reduce downtime and extend the life of equipment and systems.
  • Maintain the apartment community's pool, including regular cleaning, monitoring, and basic mechanical upkeep in accordance with safety standards.
  • Complete unit changeovers by preparing vacant apartments for new residents, including repairs, touch-ups, and cleaning as needed.
  • Carry out carpentry, plumbing, drywall, painting, and general repair work to maintain the overall condition and appearance of the property.
  • Support building mechanical systems, including basic HVAC, electrical, and hydraulic components, and assist with boiler operation and maintenance as needed.
  • Perform routine cleaning and upkeep of facilities, equipment, and common areas to ensure a clean and welcoming environment.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every 7–8 weeks to handle after-hours maintenance emergencies.
  • Complete various additional duties as needed to maintain, protect, and add value to the building and its amenities.
Essential Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in building or apartment maintenance, including repair and upkeep of residential units and common areas.
  • Hands-on skills with hand and power tools for general maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Practical experience in plumbing, including troubleshooting and repairing sinks, toilets, and related fixtures.
  • Carpentry skills for repairs, installations, and general structural maintenance.
  • Experience with drywall repair, patching, and finishing.
  • Basic HVAC knowledge for troubleshooting and performing minor repairs on heating and cooling systems.
  • Mechanical aptitude to work with building systems and equipment, including hydraulics and basic electrical components.
  • Ability to perform painting and touch-up work to maintain a clean and well-presented property.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs in a facilities or residential setting.
  • Familiarity with facility maintenance practices, including cleaning and routine inspections.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every 7–8 weeks.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a residential apartment complex or similar facilities maintenance environment.
  • Background in handyman work, including a broad range of repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Exposure to boiler systems and basic boiler maintenance; possession of a boiler license is a plus.
  • Experience maintaining pools; a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification is a plus.
  • Comfort working with basic electrical systems for troubleshooting and minor repairs.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and handle multiple work orders.
