, as an Advanced Pharmacy Technician in the Outpatient Pharmacy Call Center (Mail Order). As an Advanced Pharmacy Technician, you will be supporting a team that is dedicated to enhancing lives and being on the forefront of all we do. This department is responsible for the provision of safe, accurate, and timely medication distribution and reliable pharmaceutical care to a variety of patient populations.

Eligible for a Sign-On Bonus up to $2,500

Essential Job Functions
  • Communicate with patients, technicians, and pharmacists in other departments to process prescription orders and triage/escalate communication, as applicable per practice site. Identify customer (patient and healthcare provider) requirements that warrant pharmacist or management attention.
  • Answer phone calls in a courteous manner according to policy. Triages phone communication appropriately and according to policy. Perform other patient and/or drug related duties within the legal scope of their licensure, as assigned by the pharmacist and/or the supervisor.
  • Assure safe, accurate, and timely pharmaceutical care and medication delivery. Identify customer (patient and healthcare provider) requirements that warrant pharmacist or management attention.
  • Assist other pharmacy technicians as needed. Assist in training new employees in their area of work. Mentor new employees as requested, and assist pharmacists in entering physician orders into the computer system as needed.
  • Support all pharmacy operations and distributive systems as needed to provide optimal pharmacy care to patients.
  • Support the process to effectively maintain the pharmacy distributive systems, operational projects, and technician responsibilities.
  • Implement appropriate downtime procedures when needed including communication with appropriate external vendors.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency and cost-effective improvements in pharmacy operations and distributive systems.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Bachelor’s or other advanced degrees preferred.
  • Valid Illinois pharmacy technician license.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician License (National Certification) if licensed in Illinois greater than 2 years.
  • For new pharmacy technicians, completion of an accredited program through Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)/the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or 500 hours of work experience is preferred.
  • Retail/outpatient/mail order/specialty pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with hospital operations and pharmacy practices and procedures, medications and medical supplies, hospital practice and healthcare regulatory requirements, and record keeping preferred.
  • Computer entry skills and ability to accurately type at 35 WPM.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work independently with attention to detail, perform mathematical computations, and oversee the work of others, and interact effectively with others.
  • Sensitivity to patient care issues as they pertain to the practice of pharmacy.

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the Day shift, between the hours of 8:00am - 5:30pm and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Burr Ridge Campus. The days of the week are Monday through Friday.
