Overview

Full‑time Barge Facility Operator supporting grain loading operations at multiple facilities. Hands‑on work in the elements with great benefits and long‑term stability.

Responsibilities
  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
  • Perform all duties within compliance of OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable), including wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Perform deckhand responsibilities such as reading drafts, opening/closing lids, tying off barges, etc.
  • Perform all barge loading duties, including loading barges to meet draft and quality requirements and overseeing deckhand(s). (Typically the duty of the most highly qualified person(s)).
  • Transfer, load and move grain to the appropriate location when applicable.
  • Maintain grain quality while being stored and/or transferred.
  • Complete documentation in a timely, accurate and legible manner.
  • General clean‑up including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting and other housekeeping.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs when applicable.
  • Additional duties may include unloading barges, cleaning barges, moving product to storage, loading trucks using heavy equipment, loading rail, loading products to required specifications, operating, running, monitoring, and shutting down dryer, operating various heavy equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience:

    None required; preferred 1 year working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
    • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to complete documentation requirements.
    • Follow directions and use logical thought process to interpret instructions and troubleshoot problems.
    • Work well independently and as part of a team.
    • Use appropriate tools for the assigned task.
    • Maintain focus on exceptional customer service, internally and externally.
Physical Demands and Requirements
  • Ability to balance continuously.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel and squat frequently.
  • Climb stairs and ladders to significant heights frequently.
  • Concentrate on tasks without distraction continuously.
  • Distinguish grade, color, odor and damage characteristics in grain samples at some facilities.
  • Use nose to distinguish odors with a degree of accuracy.
  • Enter information into a computer (observations, other computers).
  • Reach frequently.
  • Lift/push/pull 50 lbs. occasionally to continuously depending on daily needs.
  • Use all applicable PPE.
  • Meet PFT and fit testing requirements.
  • Pass required FRA and DOT testing for this position where applicable.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Walk safely on barge surfaces and around water.
  • Stand and walk continuously.
  • Communicate verbally, in person and over two‑way radio; recognize emergency alarms.
  • Communicate written instructions.
  • Walk safely on top of railcars, open gates, operate vibrators where applicable.
  • Work extended hours, weekends, holidays and/or alternate shifts as needed.
  • Work in high dust environments around grain and other bulk products where applicable.
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Be acutely aware of surroundings, quickly adjust to signals or environmental changes.
  • Use near, far and peripheral vision for task performance; identify problems with grain.
Shift Information

Required to work rotating 12 hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours (continental LA location only).

Travel

Travel 5 - 20% may be required at some facilities, including off‑site training and/or work at alternate locations.

Pay Range

Expected base pay range: $18.00 – $24.00 (actual pay may vary based on location, experience, and other factors).
