Summary

The Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Trainee participates in a structured traineeship program designed to develop the technical knowledge, troubleshooting capability, and hands‑on skills required to become a qualified E&I Technician. Under the guidance of experienced technicians and subject matter experts, trainees learn to install, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair electrical, instrumentation, automation, and manufacturing systems in a safe and efficient manner.

Successful completion of the traineeship program prepares employees for advancement into an E&I Technician role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Level 1 (0-2,184 Hours)
    • Demonstrate proficiency in learning and executing assigned Skills Flex tasks.
    • Participate in weekly progress reviews during the first 90 days and monthly reviews thereafter.
    • Maintain satisfactory progress and performance standards.
    • Start to respond to equipment breakdowns and support equipment restoration efforts w/ Simplot E&I assistance.
  • Level 2 (2,184-4,368 Hours)
    • Demonstrate proficiency in learning and executing assigned Skills Flex tasks.
    • Receive entry‑level predictive maintenance training by qualified Simplot E&I.
    • Complete assigned Predictive Maintenance Routes.
    • Respond to equipment breakdowns and support equipment restoration efforts.
  • Level 3 (Up to 6,000 Hours)
    • Demonstrate proficiency in learning and executing assigned Skills Flex tasks.
    • Effectively respond to equipment breakdowns and support equipment restoration efforts.
    • Assist with advanced maintenance and reliability activities including:
      • Vibration analysis
      • Fan balancing
      • Ultrasonic inspection
      • Infrared thermography
      • Medium voltage systems
      • Terminal splicing
      • Distribution room operations
      • Bucket rack/un-rack procedures
      • Trip testing
      • Preventive and predictive maintenance activities
Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

6+ months related experience and/or training

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age (or older where required by law).
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Enrollment in or completion of an approved technical education program.
  • Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry 50 pounds or more.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity, mobility, and coordination.
  • Ability to work in industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Must meet all requirements outlined in the Essential Functions document.
