Under supervision, Custodians follow a prescribed routine in keeping assigned offices and building spaces clean and orderly. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently with little supervision, take initiative to perform duties, follow written and verbal instructions, work as a team when needed, and be customer service‑oriented. Custodians must be able to work a flexible schedule with odd hours, including evenings and weekends.

There is currently one (1) part‑time unbenefited vacancy for this position, working approximately 18 hours per week. The eligibility list established for this recruitment may be used to fill these, and other vacancies for this classification, so apply now!

• Sweep, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors
• Clean rugs and carpets
• Dust and polish woodwork and furniture
• Empty and clean waste and recycle receptacles
• Clean lavatories and polish metalwork
• Wash windows and walls
• Assist in moving and arranging office furniture and equipment
• Maintain stock of janitorial supplies
• Replenish supplies
• Turn off lights
• Close and lock doors and windows
• Collect and dispose of debris
• Perform high and low dusting
• Identify and report maintenance issues to appropriate personnel
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Completion of the tenth (10th) grade and six (6) months janitorial, housekeeping or related experience, including familiarity with custodial and cleaning methods, is required.

Candidates must possess a valid Class C California driver license and an acceptable driving record. An acceptable driving record is one that has three (3) or fewer DMV points issued within the past five (5) years, and no more than one (1) DUI within the past ten (10) years. May be required to work overtime and weekends.

Methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work; customer service techniques and principles.

Understand and effectively carry out simple oral and written directions; get along well with others; work night and odd shifts as required; commit to providing quality customer service.

Incumbents in this classification stand, walk, lift and carry over 24 lbs., climb stairs, stoop/bend/lean, bend repeatedly, reach above and below shoulder level, use fingers, both hands, and legs repeatedly, rapid mental/muscular coordination, use hands/wrists with twisting or pressure, speak clearly, hear normal voice conversation, distinguish shades/color vision, see long distances and small details, drive a vehicle, operate mobile or motorized equipment, pull, turn/twist, crouch/kneel/squat, and use a telephone.

The work environment described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Incumbents in this classification work inside, outside, on ladders/scaffolding, in direct contact with the public or alone, work with hands in water, and perform overtime work beyond regularly scheduled hours.
