Job Description
- Maintain and service aircraft armament equipment, upload and download of ordnance stores/devices, and perform systems tests/checks as required in support of the squadron.
- Provide services at the O‑Level maintenance on assigned aircraft types.
- Act as assistant ordnance crew leader and certified QASO to ensure all operations are performed safely and correctly in support of RDT&E programs.
- Become qualified and certified, and maintain qualifications and currency on all T/M/S aircraft assigned to VX‑31.
- Perform routine lifting that exceeds OSHA standards.
- Conduct routine ordnance loading requiring team lifts of ordnance items up to 167 pounds load share per team member, in accordance with standard USN procedures.
- Diagnose, repair, replace, or rebuild aircraft ordnance-related components of moderate difficulty, such as installation and removal of pylons/stores/devices using hand tools and power tools.
- Read and interpret manufacturer’s publications, maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method for repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components, and inspect ordnance components for cracks or other damage as required.
- Troubleshoot, remove, replace, and repair aircraft ordnance system components.
- Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft systems.
- May be certified as a CDI as directed by site operations and site management.
- Prioritize workload to maintain schedules and maintenance standards on assigned projects.
- Maintain and service F‑18(Series) ordnance‑related systems/components in support of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 31 RDT&E programs in accordance with applicable publications and governing instructions.
- Apply technical knowledge of ordnance system principles to determine equipment malfunctions, restore equipment operation, evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production modifications, and recommend changes to installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.
- Apply advanced technical knowledge to solve ordnance system problems by interpreting manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents.
- Possibly fill Phase Shop position.
- Ten (10) years of experience supervising the loading and arming of all types of conventional ordnance on aircraft; at least three (3) of these years must be within the last 10 years on similar type aircraft and must have been a T/M load team member.
- Certifiable to adhere to conventional/experimental ordnance aviation loading.
- Must meet and sustain all physical requirements.
- Must have completed AO "C" school.
- Must maintain all required Naval Ordnance management records to meet Navy standards for O‑level ordnance shops.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have a current U.S. Secret clearance and be able to maintain it.
- Must be available to work any shift.
- Travel may be required.
