The City of Del Mar Public Works Department is seeking one (1) Maintenance Supervisor I/II. This is a full-time position with the incumbent regularly working weekend hours. This position is open until the needs of the City are met, so interested applicants are encouraged to apply immediately. Under general supervision of Public Works Operations Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor I/II directs and oversees assigned department staff and third-party contractual staff performing semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance, construction and repair of City parks, beaches, and open spaces, streets, buildings, and facilities and performs related duties as assigned. Provides assistance in the set-up, break down and removal of equipment for special events;

uses and operates a variety of manual and driven power tools and equipment. The Maintenance Supervisor class is assigned to the Public Works Department and is scheduled to work a five-day work shift from Saturday through Wednesday of each week.

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the class.

1. Schedule, supervise, and provide technical and/or functional direction to lower-level maintenance staff, including assigned full-time and part-time seasonal staff.

2. Perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance, construction, custodial, and repair duties on City parks, beaches, open spaces, and facilities.

3. Manage third-party janitorial/custodial or other related contracts and oversee contractual performance to ensure the work is appropriately performed to City standards and contracts.

4. Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment, and hand and small power tools including but not limited to, beach cleaner, loader, power tools, floor buffer, saws and sanders.

5. Perform complex ground maintenance and repair activities for City parks, beaches, open space, and pathways; pick up trash and debris; clean public restrooms including floors, windows and fixtures; empty refuse containers.

6. Perform maintenance and repairs on various City facilities including buildings and grounds, playground, picnic tables, gates, benches, restrooms, fences, and shade structures.

7. Perform maintenance and improvement projects at the beach; assess tidal action, operate beach loader to rake and remove kelp; open storm drains; build and maintain sand berms and dunes; maintain exits and walkways. Trains new hires on safe beach cleaner operations.

8. Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs of the beach cleaner to remove debris.

9. Maintain various beach facilities, restrooms, walkways, stairs and ramps; clean and restock restroom supplies; remove graffiti from beach facilities and lifeguard towers, benches and rocks.

10. Perform general and more complex maintenance and repair duties inside and outside of City facilities including painting, patching drywall, woodworking, concrete work and similar tasks.  

11. Perform general custodial duties inside and outside of City facilities including sweeping, mopping, buffing floors, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms.  

12. Assist with the set-up, break down, and removal of equipment for special events, including portable stage, audio-visual equipment, tables and chairs.

13. Will be required to work on-call for emergencies and to work various shifts on evenings, weekends, and holidays.

14. Identify and via radio, notifies management of problems on the beach, parks, streets, open spaces, before, during and after hours.

15. Responsible for training lower-level maintenance staff in safety practices and standard operating procedures.

16. Prepare and submits records and reports concerning materials and equipment used.

17. Maintain accurate records; order inventory supplies, parts, and materials; picks up parts as necessary; processes related invoices.
