O Rew Maintenance Steward
The 'O Rew Maintenance Steward is responsible for overseeing all maintenance of 'O Rew Gateway. This includes providing a safe and welcoming space for the Tribal community and visiting public. This role ensures trail and site upkeep, basic repair of site infrastructure, supporting public programs and events, restroom sanitation and waste management. The position requires collaboration with program staff, proactive identification of maintenance and safety concerns, and the flexibility to perform a variety of custodial, groundskeeping, and facility-related tasks to provide a welcoming environment for visitors and staff.
Coordinate schedules of the site and maintenance stewardship. The role requires a flexible work schedule, including weekends, to support operational and visitor service needs.
1. Inspect, maintain, and repair site infrastructure, including signage, posts, benches, fencing, and other site amenities.
2. Coordinate the opening and closing of the site.
3. Conduct general grounds maintenance, including clearing trails, pathways, and other public areas of debris, vegetation, and hazards.
4. Support the operation and upkeep of site systems, including water and well systems, in accordance with established procedures.
5. Collaborate with program staff to facilitate site access, event setup, breakdown, and cleanup activities for public programs and special events.
6. Monitor site conditions, identifying maintenance or safety concerns, and take corrective action or escalate issues as appropriate.
7. Ensure restroom facilities, including vault toilets, are clean, sanitized, and fully stocked, performing inspections and minor repairs as needed.
8. Maintain overall cleanliness of public-use areas, including trash and recycling removal, and upkeep of visitor contact surfaces such as tables, benches, and kiosks.
9. Assist with assembly and/or transportation of resources, furniture, equipment, or supplies, including delivery and distribution. 10. Assist with emergency response operations, including facilities evacuations and security. 11. Maintain and keep a regular inventory and status of tribal tools and equipment. 12. Utilize proper equipment and tools for job in a safe manner. 13. Perform other custodial, groundskeeping, or maintenance duties as assigned to support safe, functional, and welcoming site.
14. Create schedules for interns and other stewardship staff in coordination with the Site Coordinator. 15. Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 1. G7:
High school diploma or GED with five years of job specified experience.
2. Employees must be willing to acquire any special certifications or attend any training that is determined to be relevant or become required of the position in the future.
3. Candidates with equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ability to properly use and maintain equipment and tools needed for position.
2. Knowledge of necessary precautions when dealing with cleaning chemicals and supplies.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of the Yurok Tribe and the community. 4. Be able to work independently and take direction.
5. Recognition that in order to serve Yurok People one must know as much as possible about Yurok history, culture and values.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 1.
