- Performs tasks involving mowing and maintenance of parks and public grounds, operation of equipment, repairs to equipment and park assets, and assisting with various basic construction projects throughout the Olathe parks system.
- Operates a variety of equipment including riding mowers, trucks with trailers, snow removal equipment, hand tools, and a variety of other equipment.
- Performs a wide variety of manual labor tasks which include shoveling, planting flowers and shrubs, snow removal duties, and lifting.
- Participates in weekly housekeeping duties, park grounds cleanup, and building maintenance.
- Job requires on call responsibilities which may require overtime and occasional weekend work.
- This job is part of a three level career progression of Park Maintenance Worker I - III.
- One year of parks or grounds maintenance experience is required.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- A valid driver's license with a favorable driving record is required.
- The Park Maintenance Worker II works outside in a variety of weather and environmental conditions such as heat, cold, wind, sun, rain, and snow.
- They are exposed to pollen, dust allergens, and other elements.
- This position requires the ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds, move frequently, maintain a stationary position for periods of time, and to frequently traverse uneven outdoor areas.
- The Park Maintenance Worker performs physical activities that require considerable use of one's arms and legs moving one's whole body to climb, lift, balance, walk, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl while handling materials.
- This position frequently ascends or descends stairs and ladders and works at heights; lifts and carries weight independently or with someone else; operates a variety of hand and power tools sometimes while working at heights.
- Drives or rides from site-to-site multiple times throughout the day and works in distracting situations including high volume traffic areas and city medians.
