The One-to-One Paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, social-emotional, and personal care support to an individual student as identified through the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504 Plan, or other district-approved educational plan. Under the direction and supervision of licensed professional staff, the paraprofessional assists the student in accessing the educational environment while promoting independence, dignity, safety, and meaningful participation in the general education and/or special education setting.
The One-to-One Paraprofessional is an employee of Calumet Public School District 132 and is assigned to support an individual student's educational program; however, the employee remains under the direction and supervision of the District and may be reassigned at any time based upon student needs, enrollment, staffing requirements, program changes, or other operational needs of the District.
Qualifications:
The One-to-One Paraprofessional shall:
- Provide instructional support under the direct supervision of licensed teachers and related service personnel.
- Assist the assigned student in accessing classroom instruction and participating in educational activities.
Terms of Employment:
Salary, benefits, work year, and other conditions of employment shall be established by the Board of Education and the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Assignment as a One-to-One Paraprofessional is based upon the individualized educational needs of a specific student as determined through the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504 Plan, or other district-approved educational plan. This position does not create a permanent assignment to any individual student.
Continued employment in this assignment is contingent upon the student's continued enrollment in Calumet Public School District 132, eligibility for services, attendance, and the educational supports determined necessary through the IEP or Section 504 process. Should the student's educational needs change, services be modified or discontinued, the student withdraw from the District, or the assignment otherwise become unnecessary, the District reserves the right to reassign the employee to another position for which they are qualified, consistent with Board policy, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and Illinois law.
