Job/FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Reports to: Assistant Principal
Position Summary: To help students resolve such personal, emotional, behavioral, and/or social problems that may interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy, to the fullest, the benefits of the educational program offered to them.
Qualifications- Hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Social Worker endorsement
- Performs casework and group work service with students to assist with personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
- Works with parents and others on those problems in a child's living situation (home, school, and community) that affect the child's adjustment to school.
- Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on student cases.
- Refers parents and students to various therapeutic community and private agencies.
- Coordinates homebound and hospital tutoring for eligible students.
- Participates on multidisciplinary team to assist in determining eligibility for Special Education.
- Maintains case records and files.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Makes home visits, as needed.
- Performs any other related duties when requested by the Assistant Principal.
Physical demands: While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Terms of Employment- Ten-month work year
- Starting annual salary between $59,158 and $97,829
- 55 minute duty-free lunch (40 minutes on Wednesdays)
- 10 sick days and 5 personal days for new hires
- Performance evaluation based on criteria as defined in the negotiated AFT/IFT Local 683 Agreement and the Licensed Staff Evaluation Procedures
