Salary: $24.49 per hour
Reports to: Custodial Supervisor
Purpose: Maintains the school buildings and surrounding areas in an environmentally conscious manner so that they are safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean for student and community use.

Responsibilities

Sweep, dust, mop, clean, and vacuum hard and carpeted floors in classrooms, offices, halls, and all common areas.

Thoroughly clean and disinfect lavatories daily, including mirrors, sinks, toilets, urinals, floors, etc., and keep all dispensers full.

Perform minor maintenance and repairs as requested, including replacing light bulbs, repairing furniture and fixtures, minor carpentry, clearing plugged drains, and replacing loose tiles.

Clean all windows, inside and out.

Clean and disinfect cafeteria and kitchen daily.

Move furniture and equipment as needed or requested.

Assist with set up and take down of equipment and furnishing for breakfast, lunch, and other school events.

Assume responsibility for security of the building; ensure all doors and windows are locked, lights are off, and security systems are set.

Clean and disinfect the school as needed in response to illnesses or accidents.

Maintain all entries, walks and driveways in snowy or icy conditions.

Install fixtures as requested.

Report any needed major repairs and/or hazards to the principal and operations director; complete help tickets as needed.

Remove all garbage from the building; assist with recycling programs at the building.

Work on special projects during summers and breaks, including deep cleaning and refinishing floors.

Maintain custodial supplies by coordinating orders with the operations department.

Other related duties as requested to ensure safe operations of the building.

Professional Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Two years of custodial experience, preferably in a school environment.

Experience operating equipment to include vacuums, polishers, auto-scrubbers, etc.

Have and maintain a valid driver's license.

Basic computer skills to include MS Office applications.

Must be willing to be flexible and do additional related jobs as assigned to support the building and school community.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

Climbing ladders up to 14 feet.

Lifting up to 50 pounds unaided.

Bending, pushing, pulling, stooping.

Working in a noisy crowded environment at times.

Safely using a variety of chemicals for cleaning and prepping.

School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination:
All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters 182-30 and 182-31 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. SEBB benefits include medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance. Supplemental coverages are also available.

Retirement Eligibility determination: A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement.
